On 15 April 2019, a fire broke out in Notre-Dame de Paris, highlighting the vulnerability of cathedrals and, even more so, of their centuries-old structures. To keep the memory alive, the Ministry of Culture has launched a major photographic coverage of the spaces beneath the roofs of our cathedrals.

The Centre des Monuments Nationaux commissioned eight talented photographers to work from seven different points of view, and to give free rein to their creativity and imagination in these very special places, which they wanted to immortalise before they were changed.

Some of this work can be seen in this extract of 32 large-format prints, displayed under the impressive oak framework of the medieval Farinier at Cluny Abbey.

This photographic exhibition gives a glimpse of these wooden, brick, metal or concrete attics, spaces that are largely inaccessible to the public, and often more spectacular than you might think !
