On the occasion of the candidacy of "Cluny and the Cluniac sites" for Unesco World Heritage status, this exhibition of panels gives you the keys to understanding the history of Cluny Abbey and the workings of this network, from its origins to its tragic end.
Since its foundation in the 10th century, the abbey of Cluny has seen its reputation grow and has served as a model for many monasteries throughout Europe! Thanks to this network of Cluniac sites, Cluny left its mark on the Western world for almost nine centuries, not only spiritually, but also politically, socially, economically and culturally.
But did you know that nine medieval monasteries in what is now Switzerland were also directly dependent on Cluny, and that several of them are still preserved sites that invite you to take a walk, in the heart of nature or a town?
And how did all these Cluniac monks manage to stay connected to each other, without the solutions offered by our modern social networks of communication, transport and information?
